Veterans Day Greeting

To America's Most Heroic Men and Women

The heart of our great country,
beats from within your chest.
Your bravery and service deserves much acknowledgment.
It’s a part of history that shall never be forgotten.
You suffered and struggled
so that many would never feel the same pain.
Our success and freedoms
were made possible because of you.

For your commitment, dedication and sacrifice,
I simply and respectfully say,

Thank you.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a greeting I wrote a few years back to honor all of our service men and women from past, present and future. I hope to someday get it on an actual greeting card. I was in a greeting card stage when this particular one was concocted. If you are a Veteran...I thank you!

Guys Sunday Funday

Your alarm goes off at 10:00am
Just in time for pre-game on ESPN

Best buddies come over
With goodies and supplies
And a keg full of beer
To your pleasant surprise

Drinking early and your wife isn’t trilled
But she understands and knows the drill

Pizza and chips
Burgers and brats
Wings and nachos
Eating non-stop

Belly is full and it is not even kick-off
Go to your recliner and take the flop

Switching between games
Streaming some online
Getting fantasy updates
While your team shines

You and your friends take a break at the half
And you all close your eyes for a little nap

Wake up in a frantic fit
And jump up off your ass
Losing late in the fourth
Until the winning TD pass

Your wife thinks it’s over but she’s mistakenly wrong
It’s football night in America and you sing her the song

She shouts and screams
But her cries are your cheers
As you warm up some pizza
And finish off that keg of beer

All guys want is to watch football on Sunday
It’s every guy’s idea of a truly happy Funday

---------------------------------------------------------------

I'm posting this one in honor of Superbowl Sunday. I got the inspiration for this poem back when the 2013 NFL season had first began. I was parked in front of the TV and computer every Sunday while my wife complained all day long about it. And that's pretty much it...

Shoveling Me Some Snow

It’s a crazy concept
This, I truly do know
And nobody understands
My love for shoveling snow

When I see it falling from the sky
I get so excited I could just die
I throw it fast but take it slow
Shoveling me that inch of snow

It comes down at different speeds
So I get out there and take the lead
I will not stop I must keep a hold
Shoveling me that accumulating snow

Some people wait until it stops
They like to sit back and watch
Not me I like to go, go, go
Shoveling me some snow, snow, snow

Don’t matter to me if it’s day or night
The snow always comes down white
Bundled in layers so I don’t get cold
Shoveling me that one foot of snow

If it’s winter and snow is on the ground
You know exactly where I will be found
Out where the frigid north winds blow
Shoveling me that heavy, drifting snow

One day Dad asked my Ma
What is that crazy son of ours doing?
He’s doing what he loves don’t you know?
He’s out there shoveling some snow

Yes, it’s a crazy concept
This, I truly do know
But try to understand
My love for shoveling snow

------------------------------------------------

I wrote this during the snow storm that dumped 14 inches on us here in Michigan. It was the most snow I've ever seen in one storm. I've always loved shoveling snow though and people think I'm crazy for it. That was my inspiration for this poem.

Christmas all Year

Well christmas is all over
And a new year is almost here
But lets not stop spreading
The joy and holiday cheer

For if everybody embraces
The spirit of the season
Then fear and evil and hatred
Would simply have no reason

The world would be at peace
Three hundred sixty five days
And people would show love
In three hundred sixty five ways

Conflicts would be solved
With friendly politician talks
And families would be safe
To go on their daily free walks

There would be no violent wars
And nations would get along
Countries would come together
The unity would be strong

Hunger would be non existant
From sharing personal wealth
And feeling the pure happiness
Would lead us to better health

Compassion would end suffering
By just being kind to others
If we just forget our differences
We could all live like brothers

So lets all try our hardest
To show that everyday cheer
Its easy when you pretend
Like its christmas all year

-------------------------

Now, I know it's a little late for the content of this poem but I thought it'd be a good one to begin my new poetry blog. Afterall, the concept could be practiced all year long. I wrote this poem on December 26, 2013 after thinking to myself repeatedly that Christmas was over and a new year was almost here. After putting some rhymes together, this is what I ended up with. What do you guys think?
